The CLA 250+ is powered by an advanced 200kW electric motor that can send up to 268 hp and 247-ft of torque to the rear wheels with exceptional efficiency and smoothness. Mounted at the rear axle, the "permanently excited synchronous motor" (PSM) employs magnets that use nearly no rare earth elements.

DYNAMIC SELECT

A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. Three modes (Comfort, ECO and Sport) alter the drivetrain response and steering effort. A fourth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own.

Intelligent Energy Recovery

Using the drive selector on the steering column, you can vary the intensity of energy recuperated by deceleration and braking during normal driving. Three recuperation levels are selectable: normal, increased, and none (effectively coasting when you let off the driving pedal). A "D Auto" setting can activate the intelligent ECO Assistant.

Advanced battery technology offers high energy density, with energy content of 85 kWh in just 1,100 lbs of weight. Mounted low in the floor to enhance handling, the battery is managed by innovative software, developed by Mercedes-Benz, that can be updated over the air, without a dealer visit. Its 800V architecture is designed for particularly fast charging.

Multiple charging options

The car's dual-socket charge port is compatible with J1772-type (AC) and NACS-type (DC) connectors. The AC port allows for Level 1 charging from a standard 110V household outlet, or Level 2 charging from a 240V home installation or public charging station. The CLA is the first Mercedes-Benz with 800V DC fast charging capability, for especially quick recharging at up to 320kW. And 400V DC fast charging is available with up to 100kW charging speed.

40/20/40-split folding rear seats

The rear seatbacks can fold down in a 40/20/40 split, offering a variety of cargo and passenger configurations. You can also fold the center section independently, to fit longer items like skis between two rear passengers. The release handles are in the trunk, so they're conveniently located where you'll need them, and can be kept out of reach simply by valet-locking the trunk.

Multifunction steering wheel

The multifunction steering wheel features new, more intuitive controls. On the left, the cruise control buttons include a physical up/down toggle for speed adjustment. Digital Extra: Car-to-X Communication

Pioneering Car-to-X Communication lets your Mercedes-Benz automatically connect with a central notification system about certain dangers, either transmitting information about them to benefit other drivers or learning about them from other vehicles. This pioneering system can activate to support you when you initiate an evasive maneuver, especially if it recognizes a vehicle, cyclist or pedestrian in your path. The system can provide a calculated steering force to assist you in executing the maneuver and straightening the vehicle in the adjacent lane afterwards.

Lane Keeping Function

This function can help detect unintended drifting off-course, and alert you by vibrating the steering wheel plus an in-dash visual warning. It can also help guide the car back if it senses that you're crossing a lane marking, or getting dangerously close to the road edge or another vehicle. It won't intervene if you use a turn signal or steer deliberately.

Blind Spot Assist Plus

At most driving speeds, sensors can alert you when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area on either side of you by illuminating an icon in the appropriate side mirror. If you activate a turn signal while a vehicle is detected, it can flash the icon and sound a warning tone. And if you begin to change lanes, active technology can help guide the car back. The system can even attempt to move your car out of the way if it detects another vehicle changing lanes into your path.

Exit Warning

Using the technology of Blind Spot Assist for up to five minutes after you park, Exit Warning can watch for vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened. An enhancement to PRE-SAFE® can help protect the occupants in a rear-end collision. A radar sensor in the rear bumper can help detect an impending impact, and engage the reversible seat-belt tensioners of PRE-SAFE to better prepare the front-seat occupants and their restraint systems. It can also firmly apply and hold the brakes if the vehicle is stationary, to help reduce peak loads on all occupants as well as the risk of a secondary collision.
