Advanced performance comes from a high-output engine with a more compact size. The 416-hp 4.0L biturbo V8 is more responsive, making 100% of its 450 lb-ft of peak torque available from 2,250-4,750 rpm, for a 5.9-second 0-60 rush and instant response at any speed.
As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction.
Prodigious off-roading skills are the signature of the G550. It can climb an 80% grade (that's 38 degrees of incline), and handle a 54% lateral slope (28.4 degrees of sideways tilt). Its suspension is engineered for the most rugged conditions, with rigid front and rear axles.
Smooth, supple Nappa leather is hand-fitted to the seats in a distinctive sew pattern. Three color options include Pearl Black, Pearl Black with red stitching, and two-tone Porcelain/Black with matching Porcelain door trim inserts.
Intuitive, seat-shaped controls help you and your front passenger find your ideal seating positions with 10-way power adjustment. A memory system for each front seat recalls three stored seat positions with the touch of a button. The driver-seat memory also includes the power steering column and side mirror positions.
Heated and ventilated seats are a luxury you'll soon consider a necessity. Three levels of heating and cooling ventilation are offered. By gently circulating air through perforations in the seat and backrest, the ventilation feature helps keep you cooler and your clothes drier during warmer months.

A Mercedes-Benz innovation, DISTRONIC PLUS® adaptive cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead, automatically slowing until your path is clear again. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, DISTRONIC PLUS can brake to a full halt, then resume with just a tap when traffic starts going.
When the vehicle is traveling above approximately 20 mph, this system uses radar technology to sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist then automatically alerts the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. The system also gives an audible warning if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
This innovative driver-assistance feature helps you to see directly behind your vehicle when reversing. Shift into Reverse, and a wide-angle camera mounted in the rear displays a live view of what's behind the vehicle on the COMAND® screen atop the dashboard.
This safety breakthrough first introduced by Mercedes-Benz continually monitors your driving inputs and the vehicle's motion to help keep it going in your intended direction, especially in corners and during evasive maneuvers. If it detects wheelspin, severe understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing), ESP can brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to help bring the vehicle under control.
