Smooth, quiet and rich in torque, the EQS 400 4MATIC SUV is powered by dual electric motors with 265 kW total output. They can distribute up to 355 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. The "permanently excited synchronous motors" (PSMs) feature permanent magnets to generate AC current with high power density and efficiency. An advanced cooling system helps maintain their high-performance consistency during spirited driving and a wide range of climates.

Fully variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive

In any season, 4MATIC® all-wheel drive adds to your confidence and control. The dual electric EQS motors allow its 4MATIC system to fully vary the torque distribution between the front and rear axles. Continually monitoring for wheel slip and other parameters, the system can reapportion torque in response to changing driving conditions, or decouple the front axle to help enhance range. And since the function is a built-in benefit of the dual motors, it adds virtually no weight to the vehicle.

DYNAMIC SELECT

A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and OFFROAD) alter the drivetrain response, steering effort, and AIRMATIC® suspension. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own.

OFFROAD mode and in-dash display

A special mode of DYNAMIC SELECT asserts the SUV credentials of the EQS off-road. Along with more linear accelerator response, the AIRMATIC® suspension can raise the ride height by nearly an inch, re-lowering automatically above 50 mph. Thanks to the electric all-wheel drive, torque can be precisely managed at each wheel to minimize slippage. Switching off the ESP® allows greater slip, useful in sand, for example. A dash display can show your steering angle, tilt angle, grade percentage and more.

Extended Restart in Stop-and-Go Traffic

When using Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle can normally resume automatically when traffic moves if the pause is less than three seconds. This innovative enhancement can help sense some traffic conditions that require longer pauses, and extend this interval to up to 60 seconds, to make driving in traffic easier and less stressful. If the pause is longer, the driver need only tap the resume button or accelerator pedal to proceed.
