The 241-hp 2.0L turbo inline-4 in the GLC 300 combines numerous advances to deliver more power from less fuel. Its rapid-multispark ignition and high-pressure Direct Injection can fine-tune themselves in milliseconds. Its turbocharger spools up quickly to boost response, helping deliver all of the engine's 273 lb-ft of torque at just 1,300 rpm. Widely variable timing of all 16 valves and innovative 3-phase cooling team up to reduce emissions while raising your emotions.
An ECO Start/Stop system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations, to save fuel and reduce emissions. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response. The ECO Start/Stop system can also be shut off by the driver at any time.
With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with a more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission enhances quiet riding comfort and fuel-efficiency. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the steering wheel. And drivers can vary the shift modes via the innovative DYNAMIC SELECT system.
A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+) alter the throttle response, shift points and steering effort, plus the ECO Start/Stop and climate control efficiency. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for purely manual shifting.
Sleek and purposeful, the low-profile roof rails accommodate a variety of available accessory attachments for carrying bikes, surfboards, skis, snowboards and cargo carriers. They feature a durable anodized silver-shadow finish that adds modern style even when you're not using them.
Sporty and substantial 18-inch alloy wheels feature five spokes with a shimmering machined finish and distinctive grey-painted inlays. They're outfitted with all-season Extended Mobility tires.
Deep-tinted windows for the rear doors, rear quarters and liftgate afford added privacy and warm-weather comfort to rear-cabin passengers.
In addition to the separate left and right temperature controls, a third zone is dedicated to the rear cabin. Along with fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the rear-cabin settings can be adjusted from control panels in the dash and in the second row.
The rear seatbacks fold down in a 40/20/40 split, letting you to expand the cargo capacity of your GLC in a variety of configurations, up to 56.5 cu ft. Pushbuttons in the cargo area power-fold the left and right seatbacks in a 60/40 split. You can also fold the center section independently, to fit longer items like skis between two rear passengers. The seatbacks can also be locked in a slightly more upright position, expanding the cargo area while still seating three rear passengers.
For added convenience in the rain or with an armful of packages, you can fully open and close the liftgate via a switch on the driver's interior door panel or a button on the SmartKey remote. Press a button on the driver's door or the underside of the liftgate and it powers itself closed. A sensor automatically stops the liftgate if it detects an obstruction, and you can set the system to limit the opening height, useful under low ceilings.
Thoughtful details help make cargo loading and carrying easier. Enjoy added security for small items, especially when valet-parking, with a lockable storage area beneath the carpeted cargo floor. Spring-loaded pop-out brackets in the cargo-area side trim hold the floor in a raised position to ease stowing things underneath. Also included are a 12-volt power port, a pair of grocery bag hooks, a side cargo net, and chrome-plated tie-down hooks to help secure your cargo.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Radar-based technology alerts you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as the driver starts to brake, the system can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, the system can also initiate braking automatically from speeds up to 65 mph, and can activate the features of PRE-SAFE®.
The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a new dashboard display.
Interpreting information that is continually supplied by the vehicle's Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), electric power steering and suspension sensors, Crosswind Assist helps detect the effects of strong side winds on handling stability at highway speeds. Whether caused by lateral gusts or even a passing truck, the system helps keep the car on course via strategic braking of the wheels on one side of the vehicle, as well as adjustments to the AIR BODY CONTROL suspension when so equipped.
Arguably our most important passive safety feature, all four outboard 3-point seat belts are equipped with Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) and belt force limiters. If a collision exceeds a preset threshold, ETDs instantly remove slack from the seat belts. Belt force limiters allow a slight amount of give in the seat belts, to reduce the peak seat-belt forces on the occupant.
